If manufacturers are looking for another shortcut to sell product, perhaps one of them will take the handlebars off a bike and call it a land speeder. I don't think the current iteration of the hoverboard is going to be the hot holiday gift two years in a row. There are companies working on actual hoverboards though, such as Arx Pax and their 'Hendo' hoverboard. While consumers might shrug at the danger posed by exploding batteries in a luxury device, most of the people using hoverboards are kids.

Or at least, it has the ability to explode irrationally built into it. What the CPSC is warning is that if your hoverboard hasn't exploded yet, it most likely will. Regardless, the future doesn't look too bright for hoverboards.Ĭould this be the end for the vaulted self-transportation device that seemed to bring us back into the future? Perhaps. Going forward, I'm sure their little scooters will have safer battery construction, especially after a recall. If you are going to buy another wheeled device that consumers insist on calling a hoverboard, buy it from a company that isn't on the recall list.Įven though Razor currently owns the original hoverboard patent it seems that it had little effect on product already in production. Swag is the important shopping distinction here.

Trade Commission recently banned all hoverboards that aren't from Segway. I have no clue as to why you'd want to buy another hoverboard when this battery issue still isn't settled.
